Seasoned veterans of the Hamilton music scene since the mid-80’s, The Hammersmiths have been together as group since September 2017. Three members of the band are life long friends from Westmount High School each going on to pursue musical careers after graduating in the mid-80’s.
Lead vocalist and songwriter Ray Maurice had some success on the college and university circuit in the band, Dopamine that drew the attention of Warner Music Canada. Dopamine, a 90’s alt-rock band, shared the stage with the likes of Teenage Head, the Barstool Prophets and the Rainbow Butt Monkeys who are now charting hits as Finger 11.
David Evans is a guitar slinger who has been playing and writing from the age of 14. He has played with many well known Hamilton rockers such as the Progressive Minstrels & Tim Gibbons, just to name a few. ¬†After returning to Hamilton from Vancouver, David started doing duos with Ray, playing as a special guest during Artcrawl and various events; also forming Vader’s Raiders with Virginia Vader.
Born in London, England, Paul ‘Sticks’ Symons came out of retirement to become a steady back beat of The Hammersmiths. As steady drummer, Paul also had success in the 90’s with his band Hut Museum, also attracting attention from major record labels in the 90’s.
John White is a very accomplished bass player, also from the UK. His influences range from R&B, Funk, Top 40 Pop, Rock, Punk & New Wave. The group have no intentions of fading in the background and is working towards recording and playing as many stages in Greater Hamilton and Southern Ontario.
